Coming up short

Since the weather has been warming up (except for today-brrrr!), I no longer have a cat on my lap every time I sit down. This has allowed me to enjoy knitting without enduring dirty feline looks (Hilfy really seems to resent getting poked with DPNs). I'm finally ready to start the toe on my current socks:

There's just one problem - see that little bitty ball of yarn? You know, the little scrap of yarn just to the right of the needles? That's all that is left of ball #1. And I only have one more ball. Yes, it's a 50 gram ball (or at least the label says so). No, I don't have super-long feet (quite average, actually). The yarn is a tad thicker than most sock yarns; I had to go up a needle size from my usual #2, but I didn't think too much about that. After all, I usually have quite a bit left over after knitting a pair of socks. Guess I should have paid more attention to the label; right next to "50 grams", it said "120 m", which I now know is only about 130 yards. Oops.

Now I need to find something in a similar weight to do the toes in. Which I would really like to do without buying more yarn. Wish me luck; something tells me I'm going to need it.
